This book explains why we use to buy excess goods and services and why we do not always follow our own gain. A comparative analysis of five forms of nonstandard consumption has been conducted, including panic, impulsive and compulsive buying as well as status and ethical consumption. The study reveals a spread of these forms of consumption, their specific features, main antecedents and financial consequences for consumers in contemporary Russia. Data were collected from a 2024 nationwide representative survey of the adult Russian population (6000 respondents).
The book is addressed to sociologists, economists, marketers, as well as a wide range of readers.
