Course Syllabus

Abstract

The program is aimed at students of the educational program “Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication” who learn Chinese as a second foreign language. The program follows all the requirements to form communicative competence in a foreign language. The discipline corresponds to the basic part of the professional cycle.

Learning Objectives

  • The aim of the discipline is the development of foreign language communicative competence at the HSK 3 level, which assumes the student's readiness and ability to carry out everyday communication in Chinese on any topic and in any communicative situations, and for academic communication in the most frequent simple communicative situations.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • knows the main ways and methods of organizing work in various aspects of the language (phonetics, hieroglyphics, vocabulary and word usage, syntax) for the development of pronunciation, listening, reading, speaking and writing skills.
  • knows the structure and basics of the phonetic and hieroglyphic structure of the Chinese language.
  • knows the types of the graphic structure of the hieroglyph and the order of writing the features of hieroglyphs of various structures.
  • knows the types of sentences, as well as the basic structure and word order of the Chinese sentence.
  • knows the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the language being studied
  • knows what the Chinese language system is; is familiar with the basic concepts and terms related to the Chinese language and its dialects
  • knows various types and techniques of translation, taking into account the nature of the translated text and the conditions of translation to achieve maximum communicative effect.
  • mastered all initials and finals, as well as all the rules for writing syllables in Pinyin. Knows the peculiarities of the combination of putonghua tones in the flow of speech.
  • is able to perceive and understand oral speech in the everyday sphere on the topics studied.
  • knows how to navigate in space, as well as describe the location of objects, people, public institutions
  • can carry out various types of translation from Chinese to Russian and back
  • is able to write all the main hieroglyphic features, masters the structural elements of hieroglyphs (graphemes) and their types; is able to comply with the regulatory rules for writing hieroglyphic text
  • is able to support a basic conversation on the topic of education and life on the university campus, as well as to draw up various documents required by the student
  • knows the ways of expressing dates, exact time, approximate quantity and time
  • can write and read texts, perceive and understand oral speech by ear, as well as support a basic conversation on the topics of study and student life, work and daily routine.
  • is able to apply the acquired knowledge and competently build communication based on the goals and situation of communication.

  • can pronounce and write down any combination of initials, finals, tones in pinyin, as well as comply with the regulatory rules of phonetic sound
  • read and understand the content of unfamiliar texts in Chinese on everyday topics.
  • is able to make purchases and pay in Chinese stores, markets, as well as conduct a conversation with Chinese sellers.
  • Understand the main ideas and some details of oral and written texts in Chinese, including those typical for academic communication.
  • Produce generally coherent oral texts in Chinese on familiar topics, express their thoughts clearly, give brief explanations and communicate in most situations, including those typical for academic communication.
  • Produce simple written texts in Chinese on familiar topics, generally taking into account the rules of academic communication.

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Classroom work
    Classroom work – the control element evaluates the student’s work, which includes, but is not limited to, the following components: participation in classes, participation in discussions and group work, answers to the teacher’s questions, preparation for classes, homework, independent work, activity, involvement and initiative. This control element evaluates the student’s use of a foreign language to solve various communicative tasks in the process of direct interaction between the teacher and students in the classroom, including with the support of prepared homework.
  • non-blocking Written elements of current control
    Written elements of current control may include the following types of tasks: dictation, copybooks of lesson materials, test tasks, essays on hieroglyphs. When checking written work, the following aspects are taken into account: accurate writing of syllables and tones (pinyin), correct order of strokes, knowledge of graphemes, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, volume of written statement. The criteria for assessing copybooks of lesson materials are: completeness of the task, accuracy of writing hieroglyphs, neatness and design, readability and legibility of handwriting, absence of corrections, blots, carelessness.

    Oral elements of current control: This element of control checks the current level of development of the student's language skills and speech abilities and includes the assessment of phonetic, lexical, grammar tests, tests and tasks for listening and reading, as well as oral speech products created by the student. Oral elements of current control may include the following types of tasks: recitation of texts/dialogues from memory, prepared monologue. When checking the oral survey, the following aspects are taken into account: content, organization of the oral statement, phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, volume of the statement.
  • non-blocking Final written work
    Final written work – this element of control evaluates the level of development of the student’s lexical and grammatical skills, listening and reading skills and abilities, as well as written speech proficiency for solving various communication tasks. The assessment work consists of several sections: Listening, Hieroglyphics/Reading, Vocabulary and Grammar, Writing. The assessment work is conducted in the last pair of the module. The maximum score for each section is 25. The final maximum score is 100.

    The oral exam is conducted during the session and involves the student solving a given communicative task in accordance with their level of proficiency in a foreign language.
