The new volume in the series brings together for the first time the papers of Alexei Alexandrovich Kurbatov (1700-1720), the most notable among the profit-makers of Peter I’s reign, a former boyar’s servant who became the “inventor” of a number of key reforms and the governor of Arkhangelsk, but ended his days under investigation. The publication includes Kurbatov’s lethers to Peter I and to some of the leading figures of the Petrine era, Kurbatov’s reform proposals, materials of his investigation, and other documents, many of them published here for the first time. Two introductory articles examine in detail the biography of Kurbatov and his activities as a reformer and government official.
The book is addressed to students of history, culture, and literature, as well as to the general audience.
