The book includes research by leading contemporary Russian Japanologists and works by young authors on the history of Japanese literature, calligraphy, theater, music, religions and philosophical thought in Japan. One of the sections of the book is dedicated to the Meiji period (mid-19th — early 20th century), the other is devoted to the topic of women in Japanese culture. A special section contents articles on the history of Russian-Japanese relations. The book presents several texts of Japanese literature first translated into Russian.
