Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course is designed to provide an overview of various aspects of complex relationships between the business environment and politics in Europe (EU and non-EU countries). The course focuses on European integration in a global context, EU institutions and policies, the specificity of doing business in Europe: sectorial policies and business practices, finance, taxation, marketing, competition, and regional and cultural differences in management. This course examines key aspects influencing business and entrepreneurship, including legal frameworks, innovation policies, and competitiveness. The knowledge of European economies, the specificity of European entrepreneurship, and political issues will allow students to understand business trends and settings not only in Europe but also in the rest of the world.
The course provides analysis of country and business cases, including students group work and tests.
Learning Objectives
- To gain general knowledge of the politic and economic development and current economic political issues in European countries
- To become familiar with many of the major industries and companies in Europe
- To understand business environment and cross-cultural differences in Europe
- To gain a working level of competence for understanding best practices and specificity of doing business in Europe in current geopolitical situation

- To understand the political, social, economic, financial, and cultural context of European economies, opportunities and risks of their business environments.

Assessment Elements
- Group presentationStudents are divided into groups and choose a business case for their project work from a provided list.
- Review tests on content of lecturesMultiple choice tests on content of lectures
- Seminar Individual and Group ActivitiesStudents are expected to complete all required readings, demonstrate attentiveness in class and participate actively in course activities and discussion. Team case studies and Individual valuable questions, comments and/or answers, awarded by the lecturer when they are valid and valuable for the whole group and brought students further in their understanding and case studies solution.
