Book ‘Russian Entertainment Culture…’ Presented at Book Fair in Paris

The HSE Publishing House recently took part in Liver Paris 2018, an annual international book fair, which took place at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre from March 16 – 19.

Over 1500 books by over 100 publishers were presented in this 600-square-meter venue. This year, Russia was one of the Guests of Honor at the fair, and the Russian stand occupied a central location in the event. The opening of this exhibition marked the beginning of the bilateral year of literature and language in Russia and France.

The Russian stand was part of the ‘Read Russia’ programme, which promotes Russian literature and publishing internationally. Books by the HSE Publishing House were presented there alongside books by other Russian publishers.

On March 16, the HSE Publishing House presented a collective monograph Russian Entertainment Culture in the Silver Age (1908-1918) at the Small Hall with the motto ‘Parisian echoes in Russian culture: artistic cabaret phenomenon’. The presentation was delivered by the authors – Nora Bux, a Sorbonne professor (Paris), and Elena Penskaja, HSE Professor (Moscow).

This year, over 150,000 people visited the exhibition: interest in paper books, despite the growing popularity of e-books, remains constant, a fact which is also relevant for Russian authors, both classical and contemporary.
