On October 6th, 2017, LIBER 2017, the 35th international book fair, closed in Madrid at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid expo centre. Over 450 companies from 11 countries (Argentina, Belgium, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the USA) presented their products at the event.
The Russian stand presented about 400 new books published in Russia: contemporary and classical literature; history, philosophy and sociology; educational and children’s books, as well as books on the culture, traditions and arts of ethnic groups living in Russia. They included books by the HSE Publishing House. After the exhibition, the books were donated to libraries at Spanish NGOs that study and promote Russian literature and language.
The annual international book fair LIBER is the main event in the Spanish and Latin America publishing world held on the European continent. It takes place alternately in Madrid and Barcelona. Russia’s participation in LIBER 2017 was part of the Read Russia project, which is aimed at promoting Russian literature and publishing globally.
