HSE Publishing House Books for Sale in London

HSE Publishing House books are on sale in London now. In the huge Waterstones bookshop on Piccadilly, with four floors of English books there is a cozy space allocated specially to Russian language fiction and academic literature.

This is one of the few places in London where Russian publications are available and since it opened in 2012 (on the initiative of Waterstones’ Russian owner Alexander Mamut) the Russian Bookshop at Waterstones has become a popular venue for Russians to meet visiting writers, poets and translators and browse the shelves for their favourite authors. The academic section is rather thin as there is not much demand for Russian books, so it will be nice to see a section on the shelves called Social Sciences with ten new books from the HSE Publishing House series of projects on socio-economics. Among them are the best-sellers Alexander Pavlov’s The Guilty Pleasure: Philosophical and Socio-political Interpretations of Mass Cinema, Igor Chubarov’s The Collective Sensitivity. Theories and Practices of the Left Avant-Garde, Inna Lisovich’s The Scalpel of Reason and the Wings of Imagination: Scientific Discourse in English Culture in the Early Modern Era, Alexander Bikbov’s Grammar of Order: A Historical Sociology of the Concepts That Change Our Reality .

There is a demand for HSE books, particularly during the Russian Book Festival ‘Slovo’ which happens as part of the London Book Fair every April.

HSE Publishing House has agreed with the Russian section at Waterstones to hold an exhibition of the books called ‘It’s time for some serious reading!’. We hope that the event will be popular with some of London’s 500,000 Russian community.
