Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course provides an understanding of population migration as a demographic, social and economic process of great importance in shaping the world's population. The course will focus on theories and concepts that explain modern migration processes, differences in the demographic behaviour of migrants and the host population, the role of migrants in the labour market, and the organisation of migration and integration policies in countries around the world, with case studies.
Learning Objectives
- The purpose of mastering the course “Human migration. Migrant adaptation and integration” is to form ideas about migration as a complex and multilateral socio-demographic and economic process, to become familiar with the main migration conceptions and data, to study the theoretical foundations of migration and integration policy.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Know the main statistical publications and databases on migration processes in Russia and the world Know how to use different data sources for particular types of migration: external migration, internal migration, temporary labour migration, commuting Know the advantages and disadvantages of individual sources of statistics on migration Understand the need for integrated use of statistics for migration Can Calculate selected migration indicators and explain their use in migration analysis
