Course Syllabus

Abstract

The research seminar focuses on the methodological aspects of preparing the master's thesis prospectus. During the seminar, students formulate the goals and objectives of future research, review the literature and research methods, describe the expected results and their practical significance. During the last two NIS classes, a public defense of the prospectus takes place.

Learning Objectives

  • The main goal of this course is to introduce students to the basic steps of conducting and academic research. As a subgoal the course aims at developing the skill of navigating, reading and understanding the research literature.

  • Formulate the practical significance of the planned research results
  • Be able to formulate the goals and objectives of the study
  • Students learn what academic research is and what role does it play in political science. Students learn which parts does research include and how fo they compose in a single paper
