Course Syllabus
Abstract
In the course of this discipline, students work out the strategy and tactics of representing the interests of various parties in resolving legal disputes in the field of sports. Particular attention is paid to the activities of a sports lawyer, consumer protection, organization of legal consulting, as well as representing the interests of the parties in international sports arbitration. Within the framework of the project seminar, specific successful cases from international and national practice will be considered.
Learning Objectives
- The objective of this course is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of sports-related disputes, their legal and ethical foundations, and resolution mechanisms. By the end of the course, learners will be able to analyze real-world cases, apply sports law principles, and develop strategies for fair conflict resolution in professional and amateur sports.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Explain the key principles of sports law, including international regulations and the role of governing bodies (FIFA, IOC, WADA, etc.).
- Evaluate common conflicts in sports (player contracts, doping, match-fixing) and apply relevant legal and ethical principles.
- Demonstrate knowledge of arbitration, mediation, and litigation processes in sports (e.g., CAS procedures).
- Discuss challenges like discrimination, corruption, and fan behavior, proposing solutions based on fairness and integrity.
- Analyze landmark sports disputes and their impact on policy, governance, and athlete rights.
