Course Syllabus
Abstract
Economics is a two-module course for the first year students. There are three parts. The first part is devoted to introduction elements of Economics that are general to the whole of the discipline. The second part covers microeconomic topics that deal with economic actions of individuals and firms. The third part touches upon macroeconomic topics that treat economy as a whole and not a single unit but combination of all. During the course the students are expected to get knowledge of how modern economy works and develop their economic thinking.
Learning Objectives
- • to expand the students’ knowledge in the field of economics • to develop skills for understanding and analyzing real economic situations • to provide the students with the knowledge of basic micro- and macroeconomic models and their applications to the current economic cases
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Identify the determinants of supply and demand; demonstrate the impact of shifts in both market supply and demand curves on equilibrium price and output, define equilibrium, solve equations.
- To explain the relevant doctrines and provide examples of key cases in each major topic of Microeconomics
- To explain the relevant doctrines and provide examples of key cases in each major topic of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
- To outline the general concepts and basic economic terms
- understanding economic way of thinking

- Team ProjectGroup project work (2–4 people in one group). Prepare a written report and oral presentation. Objective: Analyze the economic system of the selected country through key modern economic theories & approaches (market, state, type of economic system, specialization (product), etc.), identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide improvement recommendations (for positive development of economic system of the selected country).
