Abstract

The course examines Turkish literature and folklore as integral components of Turkey’s cultural heritage, tracing their development from the period of the Seljuks of Rum (11th–13th centuries) to the Republican era. It explores key stages in the evolution of Turkish/Ottoman literary traditions, major authors and works, oral and written sources (including the Book of Dede Korkut), the influence of Persian, Arabic, and Western literatures, the emergence of new genres in the 19th–early 20th centuries, and major trends in Turkish literature of the 20th century.
