Course Syllabus
Abstract
The subject of this course is Attic dialect of Ancient Greek and various philological areas that concern the literature written in this dialect. In their 2nd year of studies students are reading attic prose of the Classical period (Xenophon, Lysias, Plato) and discussing the genre specifics of the texts, such as the composition of the historical text, philosophical treatise, judicial speech, of the portrait of a character. The historical and cultural surroundings of the texts are commented upon and discussed in class. The main goal of the course is to eventually prepare the specialists well versed in commentary and literary translation of the ancient authors, as well as the development of the skills of the philological analysis of the text and cultural and historical commentary, which could only be achieved though the arduous study of the original ancient works of literature.
Expected Learning Outcomes

- Уметь пользоваться основными словарями древнегреческого языка.
- Уметь использовать существующие комментарии для понимания содержания текста.
- Знать жанровые особенности изучаемых текстов.
- владеть навыками чтения поэтического текста
- владеть базовой информацией по теме древнегреческой метрики
- уметь использовать теоретические знания об особенностях древнегреческой метрике на практике при чтении знакомого и незнакомого текста
- Знание особенностей 1-,2, 3 склонения в гомеровском диалекте.
- Умение объяснить происхождение гомеровских форм
- знание морфологии глагола в гомеровском диалекте
- умение объяснить происхождение форм спряжения в гомеровском диалекте
- знание особенностей употребления конъюнктива в гомеровском диалекте
- умение читать, переводить и давать историко-филологический комментарий к гомеровскому тексту с использованием справочной литературы и комментариев
