Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course develops understanding of Islamic financial products and the specifics of the corporate governance based on the Shariah international standards. The course involves a wide range of issues related to the specifics of the islamic finance principles and its influence on the corporate decision making - whether in searching for investors, structuring financial products, communicating with the regulator or marketing. The course brings value to the theoretical background of the students, and to their practical skills, specifically relevant in the potential career in the MENA region. The students study the main concepts of the islamic law related to the financial transactions, key standards governing the islamic banking industry and the requirements related to the Shariah corporate governance. Case studies of the relevant corporate experience from the MENA region are a part of the course. The course develops analytical skills for interpreting the level of the financial products engineering and corporate governance claimed to be Shariah-compliant.
