Course Syllabus

Abstract

The discipline of "Emotional Intelligence" is predominantly practice-oriented and aims to develop emotional intelligence and its role in the process of professional development and the establishment of constructive business communications. During the study of this discipline, all components of emotional intelligence related to "intrapersonal aspects" (self-esteem, self-analysis, self-control) as well as external aspects (adequate social analysis and management of interpersonal relationships) will be addressed in one way or another through individual and group interactions. Special attention will be given to the importance of developing cultural intelligence (as a part of emotional intelligence), which is undoubtedly essential for modern managers to communicate effectively

  • To acquaint students with the key concepts and theoretical approaches to EI, including its core models, emotional regulation frameworks, and its application in leadership, communication, and organizational settings; to transfer practical skills for recognizing, managing, and utilizing emotional states, fostering empathic communication, preventing emotional burnout, and enhancing emotional intelligence at both individual and organizational levels.

  • 1. Identify and define the principal theoretical models and key constructs of EI (Mayer-Salovey-Caruso, Goleman, Bar-On).
  • 2. Explain the relevance of EI in professional communication, leadership practices, and stress management.
  • 3. Apply appropriate techniques for emotional regulation, empathic listening, providing feedback and interpersonal conflict resolution in various practical contexts.
  • 4. Analyze emotional patterns and challenges in individual and organizational environments, including the identification of risk factors for emotional burnout.
  • 5. Develop and critically evaluate strategies for enhancing emotional intelligence at both the individual and organizational levels, integrating theoretical insights with applied methodologies.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Seminar Individual and Group Activities
    Students are expected to complete all required readings, demonstrate attentiveness in class and participate actively in course activities and discussion.Individual or team case studies and valuable questions, comments and/or answers, awarded by the lecturer when they are valid and valuable for the whole group and brought students further in their understanding and case studies solution.
  • non-blocking Group Presentation
    Students are divided into groups and choose a topic for their project work from a provided list. The result, in the form of a presentation, is defended by the group during the final seminar. The presentation must consist of 12-14 slides, and the total defense time, including the Q&A session, is 20 minutes. All group members receive the same grade. Presentations must be submitted to the lecturer 24 hours before the defense day.

    Contains 35-40 closed multiple choice questions, 2 open questions and 2 mini-cases in which the student is supposed to write the answer.

    Contains 3 closed multiple choice questions.
