Abstract
This course studies various aspects of art through the lens of history of the Mediterranean Europe from primitive to post-industrial society in terms of forms, materials, styles and worldviews of different social groups. While discussing the steps of human history you are going to explore a variety of monuments and themes of visual arts created by the masters of Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Germany etc. You will learn how to ‘read’ and understand the world known canvases, to see on them what you didn’t see before. You will get familiar with different genres in painting, biographies of their creators, read and discuss myths, fairy-tales and articles.
