Course Syllabus
Abstract
This program’s general aim is to provide students with a background about the main aspects and directions of foreign policy of Indonesia and Malesia. The program focuses on the evolution of foreign policy of two countries, historical origins of Indonesia-Malesia confrontation, problems and issues of mutual relations. Students will also know about modern foreign policy of two countries and the most significant processes of regional and world politics.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of the key directions of foreign policy of Indonesia / Malesia
- Apply theories, concepts and models to analyze and evaluate the development of interstate relationships.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the influence of domestic and foreign policy factors to predict possible challenges in the historical perspective
- Able to use professional political vocabulary for the explanation of the problems of foreign policy and international relations of Indonesia / Malesia.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Student will be able to apply and to analyze the knowledge about Indonesia-Malesia confrontation for an explanation of the causes of tension between countries in written form
- Student will be able to critically investigate real foreign policy issues and problems on global and local material.
- Student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant research principles and methods of studying the origins of foreign relations Indonesia/Malesia.
- Student will be able to use information literacy skills to identify key issues and problems in modern relationships as well as to predict possible challenges for cooperation

Assessment Elements
- ATTENDANCEThe grade will be based on attendance during the lectures/seminars. Attendance in class is basic and mandatory.
- ParticipationAll students should actively participate in discussions. Students should be prepared for classes and be ready to provide information/feedback or answer the questions on the subject. Participation grades are based on the amount and quality of participation. This means that a student needs to add new facts, data and opinions to participate in the discussion. In order to get full marks for the participation students need to actively participate in the class discussions, to demonstrate familiarity with assigned readings and lecture material, including being prepared to answer the questions that the instructor may pose.
- Analytical paper
- TestThe test will be provided in the end of the 1st module in offline format during the session. The test is not blocking. It will be evaluated based on the students’ ability to accurately understand the approaches of the East Asian countries, taking into account a comprehensive grasp of the course material covered thus far. Answers should be clear, concise, and precise, effectively communicating your understanding of the regional features.
