In “Democracy and Political Events” Nikita Savin focuses on current condition of democratic theory in the context of challenges liberal democracies face today. He scrutinizes how deliberative democracy has become the mainstream theory and stresses its inability to identify and resolve political tensions today. Savin states that this inability is caused by the disfigured understanding of the political in deliberative democratic theory. He develops his own concept of the political as unpredictable event. This event occurs when and where political order is faced with public negation referring to existential dimension of people’s lives. Based on this concept Savin comes up with a new defi nition of political deliberation as a mean of anticipation and averting of political events by preventive overcoming of pre-eventual situations. He also proposes solutions to the political issues liberal democracies endure today.
