For the first time in Russian literature, a comprehensive picture of healthcare development in our country and in the world in recent decades is presented. The book contains characteristics of the evolution and the status of the healthcare system, including the organization of medical care, its accessibility to the population, the financing system, and staffing. They are compared with the trends in the healthcare systems of other countries with developed economies. Also, for the first time in Russian practice, a comprehensive analysis of the current foreign experience in solving the most pressing problems of healthcare organization and financing is carried out. The demographic, epidemiological, technological, economic and social challenges facing Russian healthcare and the directions of changes in the organization of medical care, financing, and staffing of healthcare, necessary for an adequate response to these challenges and determined taking into account the identified trends in its evolution and global experience, are discussed.
The book is a generalization of the results of many years of research conducted at the HSE University. Many issues of healthcare development were developed in these studies for the first time in our country: structural transformation of the healthcare system, integration of medical care, functional analysis of the healthcare financing system, its evolution.
