Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course will provide attendants with understanding of the following matters: (a) what is law, how it is different from custom, ethics, social norms; why it is important for you and your future, (b) why law emerged as part of people’s everyday life, business practice and international relations, (c) its role, objectives and functions through time, (d) how law is related to legal system and legislation, (e) how law differs in various jurisdictions, how it is enforced and what are the triggers for liability mechanisms. As a result a student will be able to appreciate sophisticated nature of legal matters, see how law penetrates everyday life of every social agent, private and public alike, grasp the reasons why such system exists and look at it from the comparative global perspective.
