Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course analyzes the formation of relevant socio-cultural processes in the aspect of understanding communicative interactive forms used in digital technologies. Interdisciplinary problem-oriented research in the digital environment, such as e-Humanities, virtual artificial environments, and digital humanities, is considered. New perspective directions of digital art, digital artistic practices arising from information and communication technologies, digital media are being explored. Digital trends are increasingly affecting the world of culture and art, involving various aspects of the convergence of cultures, media and information technologies, creating new forms of communication. The study of the social, cultural, and political transformation of modern societies under the influence of digitalization provides an understanding of what digital civilization and digital culture are, and how digital technologies are changing the paradigm of perception of the world.
Learning Objectives
- The purpose of mastering the discipline “Introduction to Digital Culture Research” is the cultural study of digital culture, the history of formation and transformation of key social types and cultural practices. The theoretical part of the course is aimed at the study of the main approaches and interpretive manners of the concept “digital culture”.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Explains historical and cultural processes influencing the formation of digital culture
- Knows terms, concepts and socio-humanitarian theories that explain historical and cultural processes of digital culture.
- Able to critically interpret known approaches to the study of digital culture
- Able to show the representational skills to present his or her work in public.

Assessment Elements
- Classroom work: ActivityFor each seminar the students must read the texts designated in the SMART-LMS materials as mandatory. The teacher evaluates the student's activity at each seminar, takes into account the correct answers to questions, detailed and informative responses to the materials proposed for discussion, and records the activity assessment in the worksheet in a form convenient for the teacher (10-point scale or other marks on activity).
