Course Syllabus
Abstract
A project proposal is an extended summary of a student’s diploma paper. It is aimed at presenting a detailed plan of the research to be conducted, with a special focus on the analysis of source materials and placing the research topic within a broader academic context. A project proposal is written and defended in English and is mandatory for all students. Its defense is organized prior to the defense of the diploma. The submission of the text of a project proposal that is prepared in accordance with the requirements for academic texts is a necessary condition for the student to be allowed to take the oral examination. The project defense consists of a presentation and answers to the questions of the committee members.
Learning Objectives
- • To present in English the results of the Project Proposal (on the topic of the final qualifying work) in the written form and orally
- • To equip students with techniques for organizing content, creating supportive visual aids, and using academic language and conventions suitable for academic presentations.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Использует логику при организации, структурировании результатов исследования в письменной форме; корректно применяет англоязычные языковые средства для выражения мысли; соблюдает научный стиль изложения.
- Устно представляет результаты научного исследования; использует правила академического стиля для подготовки слайдовой презентации; применяет англоязычные академические конвенции в процессе выступления.
- Участвует в неподготовленной научной дискуссии на английском языке, отвечая на вопросы по теме выступления; использует компенсаторные стратегии и тактики (перифраз, переспрос, толкование и т.д.); логически аргументирует и оформляет высказывания.
- Logically organizes, structures the research results in the written form; correctly uses English-language linguistic means to express ideas; adheres to the academic style of text presentation
Course Contents
- Written text of the Project Proposal: preparation, organization, formatting.
- Presentation of research results.
- Participation in discussion (answering the examination committee's questions after the presentation).
