Аннотация
The course is devoted to the study of Qur’anic passages related to legal norms and concepts through the analysis of language, terminology, and socio-historical contexts. Particular attention is paid to the semantics of key legal terms, the linguistic features of normative statements, and the historical realities reflected in the Qur’anic text. The course also introduces major classical and modern approaches to the interpretation of Qur’anic legal material.

- Introduce students to the Qur’an as a foundational legal and normative text within the broader development of Islamic legal thought.
- Examine the language, terminology, and rhetorical structures through which legal and ethical norms are articulated in the Qur’an
- Explore the socio-historical contexts of Qur’anic legal discourse, including late antique Arabia, communal formation, family relations, ritual practice, conflict, authority, and social regulation
- Encourage critical reflection on the relationship between scripture, law, ethics, and historical context in the formation of Islamic legal traditions

- Analyze Qur’anic passages with legal and normative content, paying attention to language, terminology, structure, and rhetorical form.
- Identify and interpret key legal concepts in the Qur’an, including command, prohibition, obligation, permission, justice, punishment, contract, family, inheritance, ritual duty, and communal responsibility.
- Demonstrate command of the basic scholarly approaches to the Qur’an as a legal text, including philological, historical, exegetical, and socio-legal methods

- Seminar participationSeminar participation is assessed on a 10-point scale. The assessment takes into account the quality of preparation for the class, degree of involvement in discussion, ability to work with primary texts and scholarly literature, clarity and relevance of argumentation, capacity to formulate independent questions, and contribution to collective analysis of the material.
- Midterm Oral ExaminationThe oral examination is assessed on a 10-point scale. The assessment takes into account the completeness of the answer, accuracy of factual knowledge, command of key concepts and terminology, ability to construct a coherent and well-argued response, use of relevant examples, ability to compare different scholarly approaches, and capacity to respond to additional questions.
- Final Oral ExaminationThe oral examination is assessed on a 10-point scale. The assessment takes into account the completeness of the answer, accuracy of factual knowledge, command of key concepts and terminology, ability to construct a coherent and well-argued response, use of relevant examples, ability to compare different scholarly approaches, and capacity to respond to additional questions.
