Аннотация

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) studies how people interact with digital systems and how those systems can be designed to support human capabilities. This course introduces students to the principles, theories, and methods of HCI, with a strong focus on educational technologies. The course equips students to create educational products responsibly and effectively.
Цель освоения дисциплины

Цель освоения дисциплины

  • Analyze interaction through a cognitive science lens. Explain and apply core HCI theory and established heuristics to diagnose strengths and weaknesses in existing interfaces.
  • Execute a design cycle: Conduct user research and needfinding, synthesize findings into actionable insight, generate and prototype design concepts, and evaluate them through usability testing and iteration.
  • Make and defend design decisions for educational technology. Integrate learning-science considerations into design choices, and justify those choices with evidence to stakeholders.
Планируемые результаты обучения

Планируемые результаты обучения

  • Describe the stages of the user-centered design process
  • Synthesize user research data: develop affinity diagrams; personas; user journey maps; and empathy maps.
  • Create wireframes as a form of low-fidelity prototyping.
  • Conduct a usability test and interpret its results.
  • Evaluate how interface design affects learner motivation, engagement, and cognitive load in learning contexts
  • Justify a design decision for an educational product using evidence gathered from user research, evaluation, and relevant HCI/learning-science theory.
  • Communicate design rationale to stakeholders.
  • Analyze an interface's feedback cycle to identify sources of friction or breakdown.
  • Differentiate between a user's mental model and a system's actual model.
  • Conduct a heuristic evaluation of a digital interface.

Элементы контроля

Элементы контроля

  • неблокирующий Capstone project
Project based assignment that involves 4 activities (milestones): 1. Heuristic evaluation of assigned edtech interface 2. Need-finding synthesis. 3. Wireframe prototype. 4. Final project presentation.
  • неблокирующий Quests
Students submit two short reports evaluating an everyday product/interface from their environment using: 1. the feedback cycle 2. Nielsen’s usability heuristics
  • неблокирующий Quizzes
3 short quizzes covering the main factual information in the course.
  • неблокирующий Usability test
Student chooses an ed-tech product and conducts a usability test and evaluation of the interface.
