Abstract
The course Culture, Media and Research trains students to work with cultural-studies and ethnographic perspectives for studying contemporary media and digital cultures. Across three modules it moves from the analysis of media and data cultures (transgression, curation, protest, attention, cuteness), through a module on materiality, machine vision, monsters and immortality, to a module on reception and audience studies, from encoding/decoding to the datafication of audiences. Students are expected to develop their own written or visual research projects and to participate actively by bringing their own examples and case studies.
