Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course aims to introduce students to the key developments in the modern translation profession and explore current issues related to the translation process (including audiovisual and neural network translation), as well as addressing a range of creative translation challenges. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own research projects in digital and media translation as an interdisciplinary field, ranging from immersion in the fundamental aspects of cognitive science to advanced technologies in modern translation processes. A distinctive feature of the course is its high practical application index: it is built using interactive project-based learning and involves each student in active group work to create a creative product. The course allows students not only to form a critical opinion on the results of the latest research in translation but also to refine their practical skills in translating from a foreign language (English) into their native language (Russian). Students' translation skills are honed through mastering the algorithms of media translation and localization workflows.
