Course Syllabus
Abstract
Life Safety Basics is an introductory course aimed at familiarizing first-year students with the specifics of studying and the organization of student life at HSE University. Within this discipline, students gain an understanding of the university structure, the organization of the learning process, and opportunities for extracurricular activities, and also study the basics of anti-terrorist security and procedures for action in emergency situations. Teaching and assessment in the discipline are carried out in an electronic educational environment using digital materials. Methodological support for the discipline is provided by the Student Experience Design Center. The Academic Process Manager provides organizational and advisory support for completing the discipline.
Learning Objectives
- to form a holistic understanding among students of the university structure and the organization of the learning process
- to familiarize students with the digital services, infrastructure, opportunities for extracurricular activities, and support measures available at HSE University
- to develop skills in searching for and using information necessary to address academic and organizational issues at the university
- to assist students in mastering the basic concepts and methods of ensuring human life safety
- to contribute to the acquisition of practical skills in ensuring student safety in urban and university environments, as well as skills in maintaining personal safety in the information and psychological spheres
- to foster students' rejection of the ideology of terrorism and extremism by explaining their unlawful nature and the criminal activities of terrorist organizations
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Names the rules of anti-terrorist and fire safety
- Is able to use HSE University digital services to obtain organizational information, complete academic assignments, and interact with professors and university staff
- Names the key stages in the history of HSE University
- Names the structure of HSE University and the functions of the main divisions and participants in the learning process
- Names the main rights and obligations of an HSE University student and the types of liability for violating the established rules
- Names the specifics of the organization of the learning process at HSE University
- Names the rules for retakes and final assessment
- Names the rules of academic ethics, correct citation, and the formatting of borrowed material and applies them when preparing academic papers
- Names the General Courses, professional and practical modules, and Minor modules
- Names HSE University digital services and their functions
- Names feedback formats and knows the specifics of their organization
- Names ways to develop an HSE University student's academic and extracurricular competencies
- Names the areas of extracurricular life at HSE University, the activities of student organizations, and opportunities to participate in university events and projects
- Names the main risks arising in urban, transport, and university environments and knows ways to prevent them
- Names measures for the prevention of viral diseases and rules of responsible behavior when signs of an infectious disease occur
- Demonstrates knowledge (including independently acquired knowledge) of the main approaches to defining, studying, and understanding safe human behavior in emergency situations of natural, technological, and social origin
- Names the main signs of terrorist and extremist threats, the rules for informing authorized services, and the importance of personal responsibility in ensuring the safety of others
- Names the principles of ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence in academic and research activities
