Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course "History of European Literatures of the 17th-18th Centuries" is fundamental to philological education, as its goal is to develop a comprehensive, consistent, and holistic understanding of the history of world literature during the Baroque and Classical periods. Students develop the following competencies and skills: 1) understanding the key phenomena and figures of world literature against the backdrop of world history; 2) understanding and adequately recreating the historical and cultural context; 3) analyzing a literary work within a system of contexts; 4) mastering a variety of literary tools; and 5) creating written texts in various literary genres. The course is synchronized with the course "History of Russian Literature of the 18th Century," allowing students to gain an understanding of Russian culture as a component of the global literary process.

- Формирование представления об особенностях культуры XVII и XVIII веков
- Формирование целостного представления о развитии европейской литературы XVII и XVIII веков
- Совершенствование навыков анализа художественного текста с учетом жанровых разновидностей, стилевых особенностей, общекультурного и исторического контекстов
- Формирование и развитие навыков анализа оригинального текста и его переводов на русский язык с учетом основных положений теории перевода и истории восприятия творчества конкретного автора в отечественной культуре
Expected Learning Outcomes
- The student is able to identify the characteristics of a cultural period, determine the features of movements, and analyse the text.
- The student is familiar with the texts of theoretical and literary works
- The student is able to identify the features of literary movements and comment on the text.
- The student is able to relate the literary text to the cultural context.
- The student is able to compare cultural periods, identify their peculiarities, determine the features of literary movements, analyse texts, and establish connections between Russian and European literary traditions.
- The student is familiar with the texts of the literary works. The student is able to compare texts created within the same cultural context, distinguish genres, analyse texts, and establish connections between Russian and European literature.
