Course Syllabus
Abstract
The scientific-research seminar «Questions of cultural rights regulation: Russian and international experience» is a discipline by choice to be studied by the 3rd year students of the Faculty of Law at the educational programmes “Law”, “Digital Lawyer”, “Private law”. The course examines international documents, including UNESCO documents, as well as Russian experience in the field of cultural rights regulation, in particular, museum business, cultural heritage, exchange of cultural values, etc. The course examines international documents, including UNESCO documents, as well as Russian experience in the field of cultural rights regulation, in particular, museums, cultural heritage, exchange of cultural property, etc.
Learning Objectives
- Students' mastery of the relevant issues of international cultural law
- Knowledge and understanding of UNESCO, UNIDROIT, and EU normative acts, including acts of "soft" and "hard" law, the processes of their development, adoption, amendment, implementation, and monitoring of their compliance
- Students’ acquisition of the professional competencies of a specialist in the legal aspects of international cultural law and Russian cultural law
Expected Learning Outcomes
- names the main stages of the history of international cultural law, starting with the development of the concept and the adoption of the UN Charter
- names and interprets the main types of normative documents in the field of international cultural law
- names the distinctive legal features of conventions, recommendations, declarations, and other types of documents of international cultural law
- reveals the legal content of conventions and recommendations in the field of the protection of cultural property and the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. Describes the main activities of the relevant UNESCO bodies
