Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course "Developmental Neurobiology" will discuss how neurobiological methods and discoveries have been, can be, or should be used to solve fundamental theoretical questions concerning the development of cognitive abilities. Molecular-genetic and neurophysiological mechanisms of the development of mental functions in different age periods will be highlighted, and the role of experience and innate biological predisposition will be examined. Thematic areas will include sensorimotor development, perception, language and speech, memory, executive functions, and social interaction. The neurobiological methods studied will include MRI, Magnetoencephalography (MEG), EEG, NIRS, lesion studies, and electrophysiology.
