Course Syllabus
Abstract
After the end of colonialism countries of Southeast Asia have focused on the economic development and achieved obvious success in this sphere. During this course students will, on the one hand, learn about the economies of Southeast Asian states separately. Afterwards, cross-cutting issues will be covered, including economic integration, trade, financial and labor markets, prospects and challenges for regional economic cooperation.
Learning Objectives
- Students will deepen their knowledge of economic history and geography of states of Southeast Asia. They will learn basic information about each country’s economy, as well as dynamics and challenges of regional processes. As a result, students will have more comprehensive knowledge about current economic growth and prospects of the development of Southeast Asian countries.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to distinguish, classify and interpret information about economies of Southeast Asian states;
- • know basic features of each Southeast Asian economy and will be able to compare them;
- • learn about leading formats of regional economic integration;
- • be able to find, critically analyze and synthesize main data regarding regional trade and investments;
- • understand main characteristics of regional financial and labor markets;
- • be able to analyze key challenges for regional economic development, establish their causal relationships with local and global macroeconomic levels;
- • be able to define the place of Southeast Asia in Russia’s foreign economic policy;
- • obtain general information important for their future practical work in Southeast Asia, including for arranging trade and industrial exhibitions.
