Аннотация
"Legal Aspects of International Business" introduces basics of business law for students involved in global commerce. It reviews international and comparative business law concepts to help future executives manage risks, understand and interpret commercial contracts, ensure effective regulatory compliance and corporate governance, and effectively handle crises involving the legal environment.
This course assumes no prior knowledge of law. It explores similarities and differences in the main legal families, enabling students to better predict the legal environment in various countries in which they might do business.
About 1/3 of the course is spent on legal procedures, 1/3 on contract law, and the remaining 1/3 on other aspects of business law. It discusses the basics of court processes and dispute resolution methods, concentrating on legalization of documents and preservation of evidence for use in dispute resolution across borders. A large part of the course time is spent learning to understand contract law concepts and draft basic business contracts. General business law topics will include tort liability, intellectual property, debtor/creditor relations, and corporate governance. Additionally, students will explore regulatory frameworks addressing electronic transactions, data privacy, anti-corruption laws, and sanctions.
The course mixes doctrinal lecture with discussion of hypothetical problems, and potentially some business games. Assessment is based on weekly computer graded exercises to review the reading, two multiple choice tests based on the doctrinal information in the course, and two practical exercises designed to reinforce understanding.

- To evaluate how to develop and implement company compliance structures to best avoid legal risk
- To analyze enough intellectual property, tort, criminal, and administrative law concepts to identify risks
- To evaluate proposed business structures and business ideas sufficiently to avoid legal missteps
- To analyze problematic legal situations in global business operations and develop a plan for appropriate solutions
