Abstract

The course “Management: Concepts and Technologies of the 21st Century” represents the first step in professional managerial education. It is a foundational discipline that lays the groundwork for all subsequent management courses and practical training. The course is designed as a managerial journey-from understanding the very nature of management to mastering the practices of building modern organizations and business ecosystems. Each module constitutes a distinct step in the development of managerial thinking and professional competence. The course introduces students to a contemporary understanding of management as a complex and interdisciplinary field of knowledge, integrating insights from economics, sociology, psychology, engineering, and information sciences. Management is examined as a socio-technological practice that evolves in close interaction with science, technology, culture, and society. Special emphasis is placed on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, which are fundamentally reshaping how organizations analyze their environment, make decisions, organize work processes, and manage people.

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Attendance
Attendance is considered as part of the overall course assessment and reflects students’ commitment to the learning process. Students are expected to attend classes regularly, arrive on time and remain present for the entire duration of each session. Arriving more than 15 minutes late is considered equivalent to absence and attendance for that class will not be recorded.
  • non-blocking Mini-tests
Mini-tests are short in-class assessments consisting of ten multiple-choice questions. Each question provides four answer options, with only one correct answer. Mini-tests are designed to assess students’ conceptual understanding, analytical reasoning and ability to apply management theories and frameworks covered in the course lectures and readings. The focus is on applied comprehension rather than memorization, including the ability to distinguish between related concepts and identify appropriate theoretical explanations for managerial situations.
  • non-blocking Individual Essay
The essay is an individual research paper that enables students to explore a specific concept, theory, managerial practice or organizational challenge of 21st-century management in depth. The assignment aims to develop students’ analytical thinking, theoretical integration skills, evidence-based reasoning, and academic writing within the context of contemporary management. Students are expected to connect classical management theories with contemporary frameworks, showing the evolution of managerial logic from the 20th to the 21st century.
  • blocking Final exam
The final examination is conducted in written form and consists of two sections designed to assess both conceptual understanding and analytical competencies in contemporary management.
  • non-blocking Participation
Participation is evaluated based on active, informed, and analytical engagement in class activities. This includes meaningful contributions to case discussions, conceptual debates, and problem-oriented tasks, as well as the consistent and appropriate use of management theories, terminology, and empirical examples drawn from course materials. Students may participate individually or as part of a team, depending on the specific task assigned by the instructor. Team-based activities may involve groups of up to five students, with teams formed randomly. Individual initiative within group work is explicitly encouraged and taken into account when assessing participation. Participation is assessed throughout the course and reflects the quality, depth, and consistency of students’ intellectual contributions, regardless of whether they are made individually or in a team setting.
