Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course is a tailored version of the university-wide “Digital Literacy” course, designed specifically for students of the International Relations and Global Studies programme. It focuses on building practical skills in working with data and digital technologies that are essential for academic work, research, and communication in the digital world. Students will explore key topics related to the safe, responsible, and effective use of digital tools and online resources.
Learning Objectives
- Students' ability to master the principles and techniques of using digital tools in their daily lives and studies.
- Ensuring safe and effective operation in a digital environment.
- Independent work with data to successfully complete training and work assignments.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- uses modern communication tools (email, messengers, collaborative data storage systems) to organize group work and educational interactions.
- to search for and select relevant information to support work tasks, both online and within existing text files and spreadsheets.
- to structure content, choose clear and simple design, use visuals effectively, organize slides logically, highlight key ideas, avoid common mistakes, and present information in a professional way.
- to ensure the hygiene of his digital space (for example, on social networks and when using the news feed).
- to use app stores, to distinguish fake media messages from real ones, to check the quality of information, to distinguish a spam letter from a real one, to distinguish a real website from a phishing one, to use a secure connection to websites
- to select devices for tasks, to configure them for work, to connect them to necessary resources, to ensure protection through proper system and network configuration, as well as antivirus and antispam tools.
- to organize office work using modern office software (MS Office, LibreOffice, Google Docs) and archiving tools: formats documents according to standards, works with spreadsheets for data processing and visualization, prepares presentations, and archives/unpacks files.
- to design presentations, organize content clearly and logically, use slides, images, charts, and other visuals effectively, create presentations with software like PowerPoint or Google Slides, present confidently, engage the audience, communicate ideas clearly, give and receive feedback, and collaborate with others.
- to use modern communication tools (email, messengers, collaborative data storage systems), to organize group work and educational interactions.
- to structure and organize information, to evaluate and to reflect on their own and others’ digital work, to develop and to follow optimized instructions, and to assess the potential applications of big data in response to specialist inquiries.
- to use personal data and information technologies in accordance with the requirements of the state, including in the field of personal data protection
