Abstract

The discipline of "International Supply Chain Management" is built on the study and analysis of the experiences of leading Russian and international companies. There are many reasons why companies expand their activities to a global level: growth (seeking new, accessible markets for existing products and company enterprises), efficiency (searching for savings through scale or scope, utilizing cheaper resources, leveraging the most modern production capacities), knowledge (attracting skilled labor and talents from other countries, acquiring technologies), competition (gaining first-mover advantages in new markets), etc. The trend towards globalization typically arises at specific stages of the value creation chain. A company may decide to enter a new market in another country by opening a representative office, sales department, service department, project office, or distribution center; alternatively, it may choose to procure its products and services internationally by establishing a purchasing division closer to new suppliers, or it may decide to outsource part of its production and services. However, if a company succeeds in its growth strategy, it will likely need to develop an operations management strategy in a global context. The course will be based on the fact that it is developing economies that influence the new global operational structure. We will examine global operations issues for both Western companies operating in developing countries and companies from developing countries entering Europe or America. You will have the opportunity to learn through practical cases about companies from various industries operating in these regions. Special attention in the course will be given to the opportunities, limitations, and challenges of linear value creation systems and supply chains, as well as the development of business processes and models aimed at transforming towards circular supply chains and regenerative resource management as the foundation for business sustainability.
