Course Syllabus

Abstract

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the logiс of the development of military conflict at global, regional and local level. During the course, students will become familiar with basic definitions and features of different types of conflicts, develop an ability to identify these patterns and analyze conflicts from various thematic and chronological perspectives. Special attention is given to developing skills in working with primary sources and applying methodologies of applied analysis, acquired from the previous module to practical conflict cases and trends of military buildup in Asia and Africa regions.

  • • Acquiring a holistic understanding of a role of military-political expertise within a field of foreign area studies. • Getting familiar with basic definitions and concepts of military-political analysis. • Clarifying the differences between various types of war conflicts (symmetric war, asymmetric war, local war, regional war). Demonstrating an ability to analyze conflicts in Asia and Africa region in various time-frames. • Fostering abilities to select relevant object and subject of the research at local (tactical) regional (operative) and trans-regional (strategic) levels. • Implementing digital technical solutions within a research cycle in the field of political and military analysis. • Developing an ability to conduct pattern-analysis, identify signposts of trend-changing in military build-up and military diplomacy within the subregions of Asia and Africa and on the transregional level.
