Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course examines the historical development of media, from early forms of written and printed communication to contemporary digital platforms, situating these developments within their broader social, political and cultural contexts. Students will explore how successive media technologies and institutions have shaped, and been shaped by, the societies in which they emerged, and will develop the analytical tools needed to interpret present-day media phenomena as part of a longer historical trajectory.
