Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course examines the philosophical foundations of contemporary journalism, exploring how core concepts such as truth, objectivity, and public responsibility are understood and contested in today’s media environment. Students engage with classical and current theories of the press, from normative models of journalism to critical perspectives on power, ideology, and representation. Special attention is paid to the ethical challenges posed by digital platforms, algorithmic curation, and new forms of audience participation. The seminar encourages reflection on the role of journalism in democratic societies and its evolving relationship with other cultural and political institutions.
