Course Syllabus

Abstract

The purpose of the course is to master the main stages of statistical analysis: from data collection and processing to basic data analysis methods and visual representation and interpretation of analysis results.
Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • The course aims to introduce doctoral students to the fundamental concepts of descriptive and inferential statistics and to develop an understanding of how these concepts are used in empirical research in education.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Describe variables and data by identifying levels of measurement and selecting appropriate measures of central tendency and variability
  • Distinguish between populations and samples and explain the role of sampling and sampling variability in quantitative educational research
  • Compute and interpret basic descriptive statistics (means, medians, variability measures, percentiles) using Excel and relate them to research questions
  • Formulate and interpret statistical hypotheses, including null and alternative hypotheses, and explain the logic of hypothesis testing and statistical significance
  • Select and conceptually justify appropriate statistical tests (t-test, ANOVA overview, non-parametric tests) based on the research design, type of variables, and data characteristics, and interpret their results in substantive terms
Course Contents

Interim Assessment

Interim Assessment

  • 2025/2026 1st semester
The course is assessed on a pass/fail basis. To receive a pass, students must complete all homework assignments with a score of at least 5 points each.
