Course Syllabus

Abstract

Overview of the subject The life of a multicellular organisms depends on communication between its cells, which is controlled by complex cross-talk between internal and external signals. Regulation of cell activity and homeostasis, e.g. growth, division, metabolism as well as cell death, depends on the signal received. Understanding the basic molecular mechanisms of cellular signals transduction and transmission is essential for being able to manipulate with cells in vitro and in vivo, and developing any new biotechnological and biomedical applications and therapies. The course on “Cell Signaling Cascades” consists of 14 lectures. Lectures will be based on basic knowledge of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, immunology. The concepts learnt during this course of “Cell Signalling Cascades” will be used during other disciplines like “Biotechnology and bioengineering”, “Regulation of cell cycle and gene transcription” and “Molecular oncology”. The course is intended for undergraduate 3rd year students and is offered in English in the 1st and 2nd modules.
