Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course “Movement” is intended for third-year undergraduate students majoring in Cognitive Neuroscience. Movement is the basis of all animal behavior and therefore plays a critical role in brain function. The course discusses the brain processes that control movement and the mechanisms that control the diversification of nerve cells, as well as the formation and function of circuits that control limb movement in mammals. Factors regulating neuronal diversity and their clinical implications for motor control are discussed next. Examples are given of how manipulation of neuronal activity allows us to understand the structure of circuits involved in motor control.
