Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course explores the management of creative industries, comparing approaches from the West and Asia. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of organizing creative projects, effective teamwork, and the commercialization of ideas. Special attention will be given to examining the cultural nuances and international practices that shape the management landscape in the global creative sector. The goal of the course is to develop in students the skills necessary for successful leadership in diverse creative environments, using real-life examples to illustrate the differences between Western and Asian approaches Этот курс изучает управление креативными индустриями, сравнивая подходы Запада и Азии. Студенты познакомятся с основами организации творческих проектов, эффективной командной работы и коммерциализации идей. Особое внимание будет отведено рассмотрению культурных нюансов и международных практик, которые формируют управленческий ландшафт в глобальном креативном секторе. Цель курса – развить у студентов навыки, необходимые для успешного руководства в различных творческих средах, используя примеры из реальной жизни для иллюстрации различий между подходами Запада и Азии.

  • One of the aim of the course is to show successful/ unsuccessful Western and Eastern approaches of management in creative environment;
  • After mastering the course, students will gain not only the necessary knowledge, but also leadership skills that will help them manage multicultural projects.

  • Can compare key definitions and structures of creative industries in Western and Asian models;
  • Assess risks/opportunities of cultural synthesis (ethics, authorship, revenue);
  • Can design hybrid project models (e.g., K-pop × Western marketing);
  • Develop capacity to predict localization trends (ex. Webtoon and other);
  • Can analyze motivation techniques in multicultural teams;
  • Practice conflict resolution skills through role-playing;
  • Learn to propose strategies balancing artistic integrity with profitability;
  • Can evaluate pros/cons of different business models (crowdfunding vs. state support);
  • Can contrast Western (collaborative) and Asian (hierarchical) management styles;
  • Adapt leadership approaches to specific cultural contexts (using case studies).

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Engagement in discussions during seminars
    Students are required to participate in discussions during seminar classes. These discussions include answering the lecturer’s questions about the assigned reading materials, as well as asking questions and providing feedback on other students’ presentations.
  • non-blocking Mini-project
    The student prepare one mini-project during the course. A mini-project can be completed individually or in pair. The mini-project is a 10-15-minute presentation. The topic of mini-project touch upon unsuccessfully examples of leaderships in creative sector. Student analise the resons and give their possible scenarious of solwing it. If a mini-project is performed in pair, each student is evaluated individually.
  • non-blocking Immersive game
    Students are presented with a scenario that requires them to develop a plan for implementing a creative project. Students are randomly assigned to groups of 4–5 people and given 40 minutes to prepare. The project that receives the highest number of votes and positive feedback from external listeners is awarded the highest score.
  • non-blocking Exam
    The exam is held in the form of an oral answer to two questions put in the ticket. The response preparation time is 15 minutes. The use of auxiliary sources of information is prohibited.
