Course Syllabus
Abstract
In the course, you will learn how language courses are designed, how learning objectives are set and aligned with course content. You will try and create test items and assessment criteria. You will analyse existing tests, both national and international, and understand how receptive and productive skills can be assessed. We will discuss the limitations of formal testing and speak about formative and alternative assessment. You will plan a course and design assessments with psychometric characteristics in mind. To take the course, you are expected to have C1 level in the English language and experience in language teaching. The course is for students specialising in Linguistics and Teaching/ Pedagogy.

- students will be able to use the affordances of AI and generative models for course and materials design
- students will realise the limitations of AI and generative models and account for them when designing materials and courses
- students will be able to design teaching and learning materials
- students will be able to logically sequence tasks and activities within lessons and units
- students will be able to plan assessments and align them with course objectives
- students will be able to conduct analysis of assessments based on their psychometric properties
- students will be able to design assessment tasks and rubrics
- students will be able to assess different aspects of communicative competence
