Course Syllabus

Abstract

The aim of the discipline "International Trade Policy" is to develop in students a systematic understanding of the instruments, institutions, and contemporary trends in international trade regulation. The objectives of the course include mastering methods of statistical analysis of trade flows, studying tariff and non tariff measures, theories of international trade, the functioning of the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as identifying the specific features of Russia’s participation in the global trading system in the context of geopolitical transformation and the "pivot to the East". Special attention is paid to developing analytical skills, evaluating trade policy, and preparing well founded recommendations.

  • To teach how to assess the role of international organisations (WTO) and the prospects for their reform
  • To build the ability to analyse Russia’s foreign trade strategy and export development under new geopolitical conditions

  • Assesses Russia’s position in the international trading system and its changes under the influence of sanctions and counter sanctions
  • Is able to identify priority areas for Russian exports in current conditions
