Andrey Kokoshin is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and 6^th Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, who also held the position of First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation and Secretary of the Defense Council of the Russian Federation. In his book he investigates some political military and military strategic problems of Russian national security, including general issues of the correlation between politics and military strategy, long-term problems of sustaining strategic stability, evaluating trends in the development of general purpose forces and resources, as well as issues of non-nuclear (pre-nuclear) deterrence in Russian defense policy, and other related issues.
