The monograph discusses the problem of the ambiguity of the concept of “folk culture” and offers two new perspectives of its consideration — social-informational and conceptual-civilizational. Within the framework of these approaches, the authors characterize different types of folk culture (traditional and mass) through the linguistic semiotics of funerals. The material of the study is the dialect speech of the inhabitants of the countryside, folklore epitaphs in city cemeteries, as well as the names of city ritual agencies. Language data are balanced in accordance with several principles of ordering the material — semiotic, thematic and geographical. 
The publication is intended for a wide range of scientists who study culture in its various manifestations.
